A Visit to Baudean's in Theodore, Alabama

After spending most of the day at Bellingrath Gardens, we were hungry.  Our thought was that some good seafood would be a treat for mom-in-law and her friend.  But where to go?

One of the problems we have in this area is that there is an abundance of good seafood but that much of it is prepared by breading and deep-frying.  We were in unknown territory over on the western side of Mobile Bay but took a chance when we located Baudean's at the corner of Dauphin Island Parkway (known locally as D.I.P. but 193 on your GPS) and River Road.  Just enter 11180 Dauphine Island Parkway into your iPad or GPS and that should get you there.  The official address is 3300 River Road.

They offered several varieties of fresh fish grilled, blackened or "Baudean style."  Or, yes, fried.  The grilled catch of the day was delicious as was my Creole Shrimp Smothered Flounder.  Highly recommended, especially if you want something that isn't deep fried.

Our server was wonderful.  And the alligator appetizer - also grilled - was the best I've ever had.

Just eleven miles south of I-10 on 193.
