With a little assistance, we had Internet service up and running on Monday afternoon following our Sunday arrival - setting some sort of record. Late Tuesday evening, ITA airline notified us that our third suitcase had arrived and was on the way; could we provide specific directions to our location? We quickly turned that project over to the young neighbor across the hall who saw to it that the delivery service found us.
ITA had sealed all entrances to the suitcase with security straps. Overall, we were very impressed with ITA's customer service. Here are photos of the bag at home and at destination:
One of my projects this year was to bring a larger computer screen and a full-size keyboard for the laptop. With Linda's expertise at packing delicate items, they arrived safely. Here is the new screen for comparison.
We finished rolling out the carpets, setting up lamps, and have our reading area established.
Just before sunset today, Linda noted that there was a good view of the pyramids at Abu Sir and Sakkara (about 10-12 miles south) this afternoon.
The new kittens seem to have decided that our place will be their home for a while now, too.
We also had the opportunity to renew our acquaintances with our local baker, the perfume salesmen down the block at the Golden Eagle Bazaar, and the owners of Hekma Chicken, home of Cairo's finest take-away barbecued chicken. All of our favorite vendors are always happy to welcome our return.
We are looking forward to a comfortable winter away from the cold and snow. As a reminder, here was the view from our mailbox two days before our departure from Minnesota.
Very pretty, but oh, so cold.
