Following our visit to the Coghlan Castle, we continued east on ND 5 (about 15 miles south of the Canadian border) from Rolla for 115 miles to I-29 near the Minnesota border and on to Grand Forks for the night. Hotel rooms were scarce in Grand Forks since we had arrived on "move-in" weekend at the University of North Dakota; we spent the night at the "C'mon Inn," currently a small chain of 8 motels located across the northern midwest tier of states.
Continuing on toward home the next day on I-29 and I-94, we stopped in St. Cloud to visit the Munsinger Gardens. Oddly, in spite of having passed by St. Cloud many times on I-94, we had never visited this riverside garden.
Located along the Mississippi river on Riverside Drive, opposite St. Cloud State University, the Munsinger and adjacent Clemens gardens are a visual treat well beyond our expectations. The photos speak for themselves - all taken during our visit on August 15th.
In contrast to the Peace Garden, these two adjoining gardens were nearly overflowing with gorgeous blooms and colorful leaves. It was a satisfying end to our summer road trip. Definitely worth a visit.
