What's New On Tom's Travel Blog?

All recent photos now come directly from my Flickr Photostream. This means that when you click on any picture, you not only enlarge it, you are taken to the Flickr site where you can easily enlarge it more or navigate through other photos that may not appear on the blog.

I have also added a set of links to my Egypt posts during the week of revolution at the left of this page, just below this note. Under that are links to a few interesting reports from the area.

Memphis. A Visit to Beale Street.

We arrived in Memphis around 6:00 p.m.  We are staying downtown at a Comfort Inn.  We have previously seen the changing of the ducks at the Peabody so didn't need to do that.  But no visit to Memphis is complete without an evening on Beale Street.  And, I emphasize evening.  It is an interesting place during the day, but life begins on Beale after sundown.

Even if you are not a big blues fan, be sure to stop at some of the clubs.  Some people regard B.B. King's as less than perfect (see trip advisor ratings) but we had good food.  The Gumbo was super!  The band was excellent.  Patrick Dodd is a highly regarded up and coming Memphis blues singer.

And, on Sunday night there is no cover charge at most of the clubs including B.B. King's.  The club section of Beale is only about two blocks long.  There are a few bars offering take-away drinks.  Minneapolis and Bloomington still don't allow wine sales in grocery stores, so I don't think this concept is going to fly in Minnesota.
