We were still missing a few pictures from our State Capitol collection and thought that September of 2020 might be a good time to drive out west to visit Boise and photograph the Idaho capitol building. We travel slowly, and stop to smell the roses (or other flowers) along the way - so we planned on taking four or five days to reach Boise.
Leaving Bloomington early on Thursday morning, we began looking for a breakfast restaurant after about a hundred miles. A billboard along I-94 alerted us to Charlie's Cafe as we approached Freeport, MN. We pulled into town and found this to be a delightful place for breakfast.
I neglected taking a picture of the exterior, so can only offer this Street View shot.
The interior has a very nice "diner" vibe, and the wall above our booth featured a nice likeness of a certain well-known storyteller.
Our breakfasts were excellent.
We later discovered that many travelers between the Twin Cities and North
Dakota are very familiar with Charlie's. Freeport may actually be the inspiration for Garrison Keilor's Lake Wobegon.
