Farewell to Brasov

We left the Brasov area this morning but made a couple of quick visits to local sites first.  We began by taking the funicular to the top of the hill overlooking the city.  The cable run up the hill takes only a couple of minutes to reach the summit, but then there is a steep up and down trail of perhaps a quarter mile over to the observation point next to the large BRASOV sign.

The view is well worth the effort though.  This picture of the city square with the city hall in the center gave a nice perspective to the previous two days visit.

We made one more stop near Brasov before continuing Northwest.  We stopped at a fortified church dating from the 1300s at nearby Premjer.  It's another of those sites that should be visited via baloon since there is no conveniently located funicular nearby.  Just picture a large church in the center of a large circular walled area.

Entry to the church is through a tunnel through the surrounding wall.  The tunnel has the usual wooden gate reinforced with iron.  But notice that the low overhead is going to stongly discourage anyone trying to ride a horse through it.
