The Lynchburg Ferry Across the Houston Ship Canal

When we left the San Jacinto Battleground Memorial, I checked with Miss Garmin to see if she knew of a Mexican restaurant in the area. She showed several, all between two and three miles to the north.

I pulled out of the parking lot, headed north and shortly found myself in a line of stopped cars. Miss Garmin spoke up. "Drive onto the ferry!"

The Lynchburg Ferry only carries 12 vehicles at a time and we were about 26th in line. Since the canal is only about a thousand feet wide at this point, the wait isn't too bad. While we waited we were able to watch several ships pass.

When we drove onto the ferry, we found that we had a front row seat to watch the action. As the ferry pulled up to the dock on the far side, Miss Garmin spoke up again. "Drive off the ferry!"
