After visiting the tailor, it was lunchtime and we headed over to Al Refaei butcher and hawawshi shop just south of the Abdeen palace.
Hawawshi is the ultimate Egyptian fast food. Al Refaei offers a wide variety on their menu but the basic choices are hawawshi with or without cheese. Cheese is recommended! Linda and our friend, Roshdy, ordered theirs with green peppers, tomatoes and olives as well as cheese.
Of course it is served with a side of pickled vegetables.
Here is a closer look at the sandwich. We've had hawawshi previously but this was by far the best we've tasted. Wow! This place is highly recommended.
